If you still have questions after reading, please e-mail me at hotyogianayra@gmail.com

 1.       What about my passport/visa?

Egypt offers visa on arrival for American visitors.  After deplaning you will see a booth to purchase your visa before the passport control.  The visa is $25 USD that you must pay cash for.  They will place a stamp inside your passport and then you will go through passport control.

Singaporeans applying for a visa must go to the Egyptian Embassy to apply.

2.       When should I arrive in Egypt?

The retreat begins on April 28th, therefore your flight should arrive on April 28th.  If you are travelling from the United States, this means you will have to depart on the 27th of April to arrive on the 28th. Those flying from Singapore will have to check the flight times to determine arrival, but most likely they will leave on April 28th to arrive on the 28th.

3.       What airport should I fly into?

You should fly into and out from Cairo International airport, country code CAI

4.       When should I schedule my flight back home?

The first part of the retreat ends on May 5th.  If you are not booking the extension you can book your flight to depart on the 5th of May.  You may want to book an early afternoon or evening flight so that you do not have to take an early morning airport departure.

If you are participating in the extension of the retreat, you should book your departing flight for the 8th of May.  Again, we recommend an early afternoon, or evening flight.

5.       I do not practice a lot of yoga, do I need to go to all of the yoga classes?

This is not only a retreat, this is also your holiday.  You may participate as you like.

6.       Is it ok for me to travel on my own?

We have an amazing group of people with Loli and Anayra in charge.  You do not have to travel with a partner as there will also be people travelling on their own.  If you choose to travel on your own you will need to take a single room option.  If you would like to be paired with a roommate, we can attempt to match you, however we don’t guarantee that there will be someone also looking for a match.

7.       What are the activities like?

There will be a lot of cultural sightseeing with an Egyptologist (a certified expert on Egyptian archaeology as well as tourism).  The days will be full and there will be a lot of walking.  When we are not walking you will be transported by air-conditioned bus.

Yoga classes will be scheduled around our touring schedule and also be dependent on weather conditions.  On Days when touring starts after 9 we will make the yoga lesson from 6-7 a.m. so that you have time to get ready and have breakfast before we depart.  On some days touring will take place early and we will attempt to accommodate yoga lessons in the evening.

8.       What should I bring?

Bring your yoga mat, comfortable clothes, for yoga, and for sightseeing.  Comfortable shoes for walking, we recommend sneakers or hiking sandals.  Hat(s)/Scarves to protect your head (it can be quite hot).  Sunscreen and bug repellant, chargers, battery packs, toiletries, camera. Maybe a handheld fan if you get hot easily.

·       Travel Documents – Make sure to have copies of all important travel documents, including your passport, visa, travel insurance, etc.

·       Protection from the Sun – Be ready to prevent sunburns. Don’t forget sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, a hat and sunglasses.

·       Light, breathable cotton clothing – Bring clothing that is easy to wash. Whether in Egypt’s coastal regions or arid desert areas, light clothing will help with comfort in the heat, even in winter months.

·       Light Sweater/Jacket – This will help protect against potential summer windstorms and also provide backup for when indoors get chilly from heavy air conditioning.

·       Comfortable shoes – Many of Egypt’s most exciting sites require at least some walking and sightseeing. In general, it is best to go with comfortable shoes.

·       Health and Hygiene – Pack a basic medical kit filled with items that may not be readily available in parts of Egypt. Kits should include things like: bandages, antibacterial hand gel, pain relievers, anti-diarrhea drugs and re-hydration salts.

·       Egyptian travel adapter – To charge your phone, you will need a travel adapter made for Egypt.

9.       How does money work?

Cash is King.  Most places prefer or only accept cash.  We recommend changing money before arriving, or taking a large sum out from the atm at the airport.  Most places and people willl happily accept USD. Make sure that you bring small bills as people may not have change for you if you pay with large bills. You will have safes in your rooms to keep your money and expensive items safe.  We do not recommend taking money out often as sometimes the atms are not properly functioning, sometimes your bank at home may flag your card for fraud and freeze it, and often times the fees from the atm machines are high and you end up paying the atm fee plus your bank fee, plus a money exchange fee.

10.  How much extra money should I bring?

Most of your meals are covered with your fee and all of your ticket entrances and transportation needs are covered.  However, tipping is not covered so we encourage you to bring money to tip your drivers, tour guides, and porters at the hotel/boat.  Beverages are also not included.  If you like to shop for souvenirs you will want to bring money for that as well.  The more expensive souvenirs like rugs, papyrus, alabaster, essential oils, perfumes, and jewelry can be paid using credit cards.

11.  How about vaccinations or health concerns?

The following vaccines or boosters are recommended, but not mandatory for Egypt. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and tetanus. You should also have your Covid Vaccines/booster.

We also recommend purchasing travel insurance that also covers Covid19 and other health issues in addition to trip cancellations, etc.  We recommend insuremytrip.com which gives a selection of different policies and their prices based on your needs.

12.  What are the accommodations like?

You have the option of a single room with a Queen size bed. Or a double room for two persons with a Queen sized bed for sharing, or two Queen sized beds.  On the Nile cruise, the rooms are smaller and the double room will have two single beds or one Queen for single supplement.

13.  What is the food like?

Most of the meals will be served buffet style and there are plenty of choices of salads, rice/pastas, chicken beef, lamb, and fish.  However, we must stress that this trip may not be suitable for those with celiac, or vegans.  Egypt has a lot of vegetarian friendly food available, however, when specifying dairy free, gluten free, etc., they are not very knowledgeable and we cannot guarantee that your dietary needs will be met if you follow a restrictive diet.

14.  What about snorkeling and scuba diving?

We will be going out on a boat for snorkeling and/or scuba diving in the Red Sea trip extension.  If you are not comfortable snorkeling you can still come on the boat and enjoy the day out.  Life vests are provided and even if you are new to snorkeling, the staff is well trained to assist you on your first time.  If you want to dive, diving will also be available.  The Red Sea has the largest variety of fish than any other body of water, so we highly encourage you to try snorkeling/diving while there.

15.  What about Internet access?

There is internet access available but can be rather spotty or slow.  If you need to be connected, we recommend buying a SIM card and putting internet access on it.  You can install it on your phone, or on a portable wi-fi router if you own one.  A SIM card with internet suitable for one week of usage costs around $30 USD.  If you would like to purchase one, please let us know ahead of tie and we will make sure that you have one provided to you upon arrival.

16.  Do I need a power converter or adapter?

For Egypt there are two associated plug types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Egypt operates on a 220V supply voltage and 50Hz.

17.   Will all my meals be included?

Almost all of the meals in Cairo and on the Nile Cruise are included with the following exceptions: On the travel days lunch is not included because you will be travelling during the lunch time.

During the extension you will be on a half-board basis that means breakfast and dinner are included, but lunch is not included.  If you participate in the boat activity your lunch will be included that day, and if you choose to participate in the Dahab Blue Hole additional paid excursion lunch will be included with that.

18.   Are soft drinks/alcohol included in my package?

No soft drinks or alcohol are not included but are available for purchase.

19.   When Should I put down my deposit?

To qualify for the early bird pricing you must be one of the first 8 people to purchase your package and must be paid on or before __________
